Rascal Flatts and the B1 Pledge

On my drive home from work tonight, I was listening to the radio. A song by Rascal Flatts was ending and the radio host started talking to the band. They talked about a foundation that they are now apart of called, "Jason Foundation." They provide resources and training to help raise awareness about youth suicide. According to information posted on the Rascal Flatts page, there are 3000 suicides each day. It's estimated that for every one completed suicide, another 20 people have attempted to take their own life.

Startling Facts found posted to the Jason Foundation webpage:

  • Suicide ranks as the THIRD leading cause of death for ages 10-24 and FOURTH for ages 10-14.

  • Suicide is the SECOND leading cause of death for our college-aged youth, as well as for ages 15 to 19 in many states.

  • NHSDA Report / SAMHSA (US Dept. of Health) – In 2000, over ONE Million youth attempted suicide in the U.S. That equates to over 4,200 attempts each day in our nation by youth ages 12 to 17.

I took the pledge to save lives and end youth suicide, will you?
