AVG is an anti-virus software program that you can download for free. (I recommend finding the download at cnet.com) Another great AVG product I just discovered is their Family Safety software. For $0.99 a YEAR you can put the software on up to 3 computers!
Part of the software is designed to prevent bullying. The software lets you know if your child is a victim of cyber bullying or grooming from a predator. It will actually track what happens on social media sites by watching instant messages and facebook and twitter posts and limit access to chat rooms. The software gives you real time alerts that you know what's going on via text message or email that you can access from anywhere. It also always you to adjust the settings based on your children's age groups. If you have more then one child in the home, you can customize their profiles so your 14 year old has appropriate access and your 9 year old stays safe as well.
Now by now, I hope everyone realizes that I'm not doing this to try and sell anyone anything. The whole purpose of this blog is to bring awareness and to help those affected by teen bullying and cyberbullying. As I find things that I would use to protect my own family, I'll be sure to pass that information along. I definitely think that would be the best $0.99 ever spent. Does anyone out there have any other software programs that you use on your computer to keep your family safe? I'd love to hear about them and give families out there as many options as possible to find the right solution to meet their needs.
